Second-half woes slow Devils

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- After a strong first half, the Fredonia men's basketball team lost momentum in the second half, and fell to Brockport, 73-55, on Tuesday. Ian Helps (Bronx, N.Y. / Greater New York Academy) led the Devils with 21 points and eight rebounds. Dante Williams (Buffalo, N.Y. / Hutch Tech) added 12 points
and Kay Jackson had 11. Isaiah Ice was the top playmaker with five assists.

The teams played to a 30-all tie after 20 minutes of play. There were five lead changes and three ties in the first half. Helps led the Devils with a strong inside game, going five of seven from the field.

Brockport scored three consecutive buckets to start the second half, before Jackson nailed back-to-back threes for the Devils to tie things at 36-all.

After trading baskets, Jackson nailed his third three of the half to give the Devils a 41-40 lead. Brockport's Tyler Collins nailed a three before Helps tied the game at 43 on a dunk.

Brockport then went on a 12-0 run to take its biggest lead of the game at that point, 55-43. From there they would not give up the lead. Fredonia would get as close as six points with 7:40 left to play.

The Devils outrebounded Brockport, 32-26. However, they committed 17 turnovers to Brockport's eight. Fredonia shot 39 percent from the floor while Brockport hit 47 percent of its shots, including 57 percent in the second half.

Brockport (10-3 SUNYAC / 15-5 overall) was led by Hamed Shamseldin with 26 points and Justin Summers with 18.

Fredonia drops to 1-12 and 3-16 overall. The men are back home this weekend, taking on Cortland on Friday and Oswego on Saturday.
