Devils dominate Dragons

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia men's basketball team put together a strong effort, putting away Oneonta, 85-68, for its second SUNYAC win in three games on Friday. The game was tied three times in the early going, the last coming at 12-12, before the Devils took total control of the contest.

Dante' Williams (Buffalo, N.Y. / Hutch Tech) had a game-high 22 points. Justin Tapper (White Plains, N.Y. / White Plains) ended with 16 points and eight rebounds and Ian Helps (Bronx, N.Y. / Greater New York Academy) had 15 points and seven rebounds. Kay Jackson (Ridgewood, N.Y. / Grover Cleveland) added 11 points as the starting lineup accounted for 64 of the team's 85 points.

Defensively, Jonathan McDonald (Brooklyn, N.Y. / High School for Public Service) had three blocks.

After Oneonta tied the game at 12, Fredonia went on a 13-2 run to go up 11 points, 25-14. Oneonta clawed back into the game following two consecutive layups by Jacob Rodriguez to cut the deficit to two, 27-25.

The Devils bounced back with seven straight points. By the half, the lead was back up to 11, thanks to a buzzer-beating three by Helps that put them up 43-32.

The Devils led by at least nine points the entire second half, their biggest lead of 23 coming after a three pointer by Williams with 8:43 left to play.

Fredonia continued its strong rebounding with a 37-29 edge in boards. They also had 20 points from the free-throw line, shooting 20 of 27 (74 percent). Williams was nine of 10 from the line.

Oneonta (7-6 SUNYAC / 11-9 overall) was led by Matthew Boyd with 14 points and Rodriguez with 12 -- both of whom came off the bench.

Fredonia (2-12 SUNYAC / 4-16 overall) takes on New Paltz at 3 p.m. in Dods Hall on Saturday.
