Devils fall twice to Oneonta

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia dropped a pair of SUNYAC games Sunday to Oneonta, 5-1 in eight innings in the first game and 8-6 in the nightcap.

The Blue Devils (10-10 overall, 0-4 SUNYAC) rallied for a run in the last of the seventh to force extra innings in the opener, only to have Oneonta score runs in the top of the seventh. Katelyn Dennis (Webster, N.Y.) lined a double off the center-field fence and Lauren Pixley (Hamburg, N.Y.) plated the tying run with a two-out single to center, her second hit of the game and one of four in the doubleheader.
 
Sam Seegar (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) was the Game 1 losing pitcher. She allowed three earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts before she was relieved in the top of the eighth. She

The Red Dragons (14-4 overall, 4-2 SUNYAC) broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the top of the second and added four runs in the third to gain the upper hand early in Game 2. Katie Yudin (Liverpool, N.Y.) was tagged with the loss. Emily Shellenberger (Philadelphia, Pa.) pitched 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

In addition to Pixley, Knee Nance (Dunkirk, N.Y.) and Erin Mushtare (Oneonta, N.Y.) had two hts each for the Blue Devils, who return to action noon Monday with a home SUNYAC doubleheader with the New Paltz Hawks. The Hawks and Buffalo State split their games Sunday, a doubleheader moved to Fredonia because of wet grounds at Buffalo State.

Pixley also had two RBI in Sunday's nightcap.
