FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Sophomore
Luke Kuczewski (Orchard Park) spun a five-hit shutout in the nightcap as Fredonia claimed a 2-0 win and earned a split with New Paltz at Ludwig Field. The Hawks won the first game, 11-5.
Kuczewski struck out six and walked three for his third win of the season. He was aided defensively by batterymate
Patrick Sheehan. Sheehan threw out three runners in the third inning. New Paltz was 0-for-5 in stolen bases on the day.
Joshua Crocetti came (Hilton / Hilton) up with the big hit, a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth inning.
New Paltz' Brian LoRusso took the loss, despite only allowing four hits.
In the opener, the Devils were hampered by six errors.
Matt Wilhelm had two hits for Fredonia.
The Hawks now stand at 9-8, while Fredonia is 11-12.
The rubber game takes place on Monday at 1:00 on Ludwig Field.
