Rochester claims two non-conference wins

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia's mid-season skid reached seven straight losses after dropping a pair of games Tuesday to University of Rochester, 6-0 and 11-3.

The Blue Devils (11-17) managed just two hits off Eleni Wechsler in the opener -- singles by Khee Nance (Dunkirk, N.Y.) and Katelyn Dennis (Webster, N.Y.). Freshman right-hander Sam Seegar (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) took the loss. Two of the six runs she allowed were unearned.

After a scoreless top of the first by Rochester, Fredonia took its first lead since a 2-1 walk-off win before the start of the current losing streak. A single by Dennis scored Lauren Pixley (Hamburg, N.Y.), who had reached on an error. The unearned run came off Rochester starting pitcher Sam Malecki.

Fredonia's rare lead was short-lived. The Yellow Jackets (14-10) scored three in the second and five more in the fourth off losing pitcher Katie Yudin (Liverpool, N.Y.).
When the Blue Devils mounted a rally in the last of the third, Malecki was replaced by Elizabeth Bourne, who picked up the win in relief.

Dennis had three hits, Pixley two, and Erin Mushtare (Oneonta, N.Y.) a two-run triple for the Blue Devils, who return to SUNYAC competition Friday when Geneseo visits Blue Devil Field. The conference doubleheader is scheduled for a 3 o'clock start.
