LEESBURG, Fla. --
Michael Wilcox (Falconer, N.Y.) and
Josh Koepsell (Lewiston, N.Y.) combined to limit Fitchburg State to two hits, and the offense exploded for a season-high 16 runs as the Devils split on Saturday. Fitchburg claimed the opener, 6-5.
Wilcox surrendered both hits and the lone run, which was unearned. He struck out six and walked three. Koepsell came on for the second day in a row to pitch a hitless sixth and seventh, striking out a pair.
Kevin Yirinec (Fairport, N.Y.) had 3 hits and 4 RBI. Jonathan Morrison (Macedon, N.Y.) also had 3 hits and drove in a pair.
Kole Brink (Frewsburg, N.Y.) had a pair of hits in his first collegiate start. Ciro Frontale (Syracuse) and
Steve Zaprowski (Williamsville, N.Y.) also had two hits.
Fredonia's
Patrick Sheehan (West Seneca, N.Y.) went 3 for 3 in the opener and Zaprowski cracked a two-run double as part of a four-run inning to forge a 4-4 tie in the top of the fifth inning.
James Krolikowski (Lancaster, N.Y.) drove in the go-ahead run on an infield grounder as the Blue Devils took a 5-4 lead.
Fitchburg State scored once in the fifth and once in the sixth off Zaprowski, who took the loss on the mound. Starting pitcher
Jake Harford (Silver Creek, N.Y.) pitched the first four innings, with five strikeouts and surrendered four runs.
Liam Kelly (Buffalo, N.Y.) and
Michael Prentice (West Seneca, N.Y.) had two hits each as part of Fredonia's nine-hit offense. Yirinec was also credited with an RBI.
