FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Rochester Instutite of Technology scored late in the first half and held off Fredonia, 1-0, in women's soccer Saturday at University Stadium.
RIT threatened several times before finally breaking through. Emily Thiel made a short run out of the midfield and sent a short cross to Sami Alur at the 18-yard line. Alur's low shot deflected off the far post and into the net with 10:19 left in the first half.
Earlier in the half, Fredonia sophomore goalkeeper
Kendall Owczarzak (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) made a pair of diving stops. Owczarzak first thwarted Thiel and later Monique Polanco on point-blank shots.
The loss dropped Fredonia to 2-4 heading into a non-conference game Tuesday at Allegheny. RIT improved to 4-1-1.
The start of the game was delayed by one hour due to a thunderstorm in the area.
