ALFRED, N.Y. -- Fredonia's trip to Alfred State ended Tuesday with an 8-3 loss in non-conference baseball.

The Blue Devils (17-18) took a short-lived 2-0 lead in the top of the third. A lead-off single by sophomore Patrick Sheehan (West Seneca, N.Y./Orchard Park) and two sacrifice bunts, one resulting in an error, set up senior Quinn Danahy (Buffalo, N.Y./Bishop Timon-St. Jude) for a two-out, two-run single.

Alfred State scored three runs in the bottom half of the third and led the rest of the way.

Sheehan and senior Dan Cecilia (Utica, N.Y./Whitesboro) had two hits each while junior right-hander Zach Lyman (Belmont, N.Y./Genesee Valley) was the losing pitcher.

The Blue Devils have off Wednesday and Thursday before playing host to Plattsburgh in a three-game SUNYAC series starting 3 p.m. Friday.
