CORTLAND, N.Y. -- A six-run second inning by Cortland, and too-little, too-late offense led to a 10-2 loss at Cortland on Friday.
After a scoreless first, the Red Dragons used five hits, a walk and an error to take a 6-0 lead over Fredonia. Cortland would stretch the lead to 10-0 by the end of eight before the Devils got on the scoreboard.
Back-to-back-to-back singles by
Kyle Sherman, Josh Crocetti and
Ciro Frontale accounted for one run and runners on first and second.
Liam Kelly followed with the fourth consecutive hit to load the bases.
Michael Prentice then drove home a run on a fielder's choice to give the final.
Freshman
Rob Wiegand had two hits for the Devils, who finished with seven on the day.
Zach Jordon went six innings, surrendering eight runs, four earned.
Carl Wolf gave up a pair of runs in one inning, and
Matt Wilhelm pitched a 1-2-3 eighth.
Cortland improves to 16-3 overall and 2-2 in the SUNYAC.
Fredonia (8-8, 2-2 SUNYAC) plays a doubleheader tomorrow in Cortland.
