CLERMONT, Fla. -- Fredonia went into extra innings twice Monday during The Spring Games at Hancock Park. The Blue Devils defeated Union, 7-6, in the first of the two games, then lost to St. Lawrence, 5-4. Both games lasted eight innings.
With the tiebreaking rule in effect,
Maddy Stavish (Olean, N.Y./Olean) was placed on second to start the eighth and scored when a bunt by
Kelly Losito (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) was thrown down the right-field line against Union.
The win went to senior right-hander
Aldyn Carlson (Dunkirk, N.Y./Dunkirk), who allowed one earned run in 3 1/3 innings of relief. She improved to 1-2 this spring to go along with two saves.
Fredonia took a 6-5 with a pair of runs in the last of the fifth on a pinch-hit single by
Kim Lotocki (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) and a Union error. Union scored in the top of the seventh and left the bases loaded on a diving catch by shortstop
Alyssa Morgan (Homer, N.Y./Homer) on a soft liner behind third.
Morgan had two hits and scored two runs while
Lindsey Forness (Allegany, N.Y./Allegany-Limestone) rapped a two-run double and aded a single.
Leanne Villani (Lake Grove, N.Y./Lake Ronkonkoma) had a single and an RBI.
Carlson started the second game and left with a 4-2 lead in the last of the fifth. Allie Courtwright rapped a two-run homer off reliever
Megan DeGroat (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall). The Blue Devils were unable to mount offense against reliever Hannah Sears, who allowed no runs and no hits over the final four innings.
Emma Reakes singled to center to drive in the winning run in the last of the eighth.
Losito had two hits and drove in two runs to pace the Frednonia offense.
Cassidy Herman (Maybrook, N.Y./Valley) had two hits and scored runs while Forness had an RBI.eu
After an off day Tuesday, the Blue Devils play twice Wednesday -- at 1 p.m. vs. Thomas and 3 p.m. vs. Loras. Both games are at Hancock Park.
