CLERMONT, Fla. -- The first collegiate homer by
Alyssa Morgan (Homer, N.Y./Homer) capped Fredonia's 11-hit attack in a 9-7 win over Rochester Institute of Technology at Hancock Park. Scranton defeated Fredonia, 11-3, earlier Sunday.
Morgan's two-run blast to deep right capped a three-run fifth inning and staked the Blue Devils (2-4) to a 6-1 lead. It also gave Morgan three RBI in the game -- and five on the day -- in support of winning pitcher
Megan DeGroat (New Windsor, N.Y. / Cornwall ).
Aldyn Carlson (Dunkirk, N.Y. / Dunkirk) got the final two outs to earn her second save of the season.
Kelly Losito (Horseheads, N.Y. / Horseheads) had two hits and two RBI and scored three runs. She also had two hits against Scranton and was 4 of 6 on the day. Morgan was 4 of 7 and
Erin Mushtare (Oneonta, N.Y./Oneonta) 3 of 5.
Scranton jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first inning off Carlson, and pushed its lead to 9-0. A sacrifice fly by
Katelyn Dennis (Webster, N.Y. / Webster Schroeder) gave Fredonia its first run in the last of the fourth. Morgan ripped a two-run double with two outs in the fifth to extend the game. Scranton scored a run in the sixth and Fredonia did not -- resulting in the eight-run mercy rule ending.
Making her first appearance in the circle this spring, DeGroat gave up a homer by Danielle Hotz off the left-field foul pole in the first. It stayed that way until the top of the third.
Lauren Pixley (Hamburg, N.Y. / Frontier) singled on the first pitch of the inning.
Sarah Cuillo (Blasdell, N.Y. / Frontier) laid down a sacrifice bunt before Losito,
Lindsey Forness (Allegany, N.Y./Allegany-Limestone), and Forness strung together three straight RBI singles.
The Blue Devils scored three in the fifth and three more in the sixth.
Losito led off the fifth by reaching on an error. After Morgan launched her two-run homer,
Madeline Medina (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) singled and pinch-runner
Nikki Lent (Yaphank, N.Y. / Longwood) stole second. Mushtare singled to score Lent.

Leanne Villani (Lake Grove, N.Y. / Lake Ronkonkoma) opened the three-run sixth. She stole second and scored on a double by Losito. Forness reached on a fielder's choice. Medina brought in Losito with a single to right and Forness scored on the play as a result of a throwing error.
RIT plated three runs in the last of the seventh off DeGroat before Carlson entered and retired the final two batters with a runner on second.
The Blue Devils return to Hancock Park for a pair of Monday days -- 11 a.m. vs. Union and 1 p.m. vs. St. Lawrence.
