SUNYAC playoff notebook: Brockport at Fredonia

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Blue Devils' home playoff game Tuesday vs. Brockport is a first. Fredonia has never played a women's basketball tournament on their home court.

Game time is 7 p.m. in the Steele Hall Fieldhouse. Tickets go on sale at 6 p.m. Fredonia is the No. 3 seed while Brockport is No. 6.

Beginning in 1984, the Blue Devils have made 15 SUNYAC Tournament appearances for a total of 18 games. Their all-time record in those games is 3-15. The wins came in 1992, 2001, and 2003 -- all in the quarterfinal round.

Combined with two appearances in the ECAC Upstate New York Tournament, Fredonia is 5-17 in all post-season games.

DOWN TO THE WIRE

Fredonia's most recent conference appearance came in 2014. Up for much of the game, the Blue Devils were overtaken in the final minute by the host Knights. A desperation three-point shot by then-senior Becky Hebert -- the program's all-time leading scorer -- rattled out as time expired.

That was Linda Hill-MacDonald's first season as Fredonia's head coach. Out of coaching after collegiate stints at Temple, Minnesota, and University at Buffalo and in the WNBA as head coach of the Cleveland Rockers, Hill-MacDonald was named the Blue Devils' sixth head coach just prior to the start of the 2013-14 season.

She will be looking to become the third Fredonia coach to win a SUNYAC Tournament game. Cathy Flanders (1992) and Dina (White) Henry (2001 and 2003) are the others. The 2003 Tournament win was momentous. The Blue Devils, as the No. 8 seed, defeated host and No. 1 seed Geneseo -- the only time in tournament history the No. 8 defeated the No. 1.

EARLIER MEETINGS
