BUFFALO, N.Y. - Two more points are on the line Friday in the Fredonia-Buffalo State "Battle By The Lake."
Women's basketball at 5:30 p.m. and men's basketball at 7:30 p.m. in the Steele Hall Fieldhouse are the final two events that will be held in Fredonia during the season-long series.
Upcoming meets and games in the series will be held either at Buffalo State or at neutral locations.
Fredonia leads the point standings, 8-7, gong into the weekend. The Blue Devils were winners of the inaugural competition in 2014-15 by a score of 18-16.
Each school earned one point in the basketball doubleheader Jan. 19 at Buffalo State. The Blue Devil women prevailed 94-92 in overtime. The Bengal men were 75-67 winners, also in overtime.
Both of Friday's games have potential playoff implications. On the women's side, Fredonia - at 10-5 in the conference - will clinch a playoff spot with one more win (a previous story claiming the Blue Devils had clinched a berth was premature). The Buffalo State women, at 5-10, need to win out and get help to make the six-team tournament. The Fredonia men, also 5-10 in SUNYAC, are in a similar place - in need three wins plus help. The Buffalo State men, at 7-8, sit in seventh place, one game back of sixth.
The doubleheader has been designated as an Athletes Supporting Athletes event for Fredonia student-athletes. In addition, there is a half-court shot promotion planned for halftime of the men's game -- $1 per shot for a chance to win a $50 FSA gift card.
Admission price is $5 for adults, $2 for students, and free for Fredonia students with a valid college identification card. Doors open at 5 p.m.
