Jacque Law (Machias, N.Y. / Pioneer) scored a season-high 19 points and
Alexis Cheatham (Lockport, N.Y. / Lockport) added 17 as the Fredonia women's basketball team dominated play in the second half for a 77-40 win over visiting Alfred State, and improved to 9-1 on the season. Leading 38-27 at the break, the Devils allowed only15 points the rest of the way, outscoring the Saxons 37-15 in the final two quarters.
Cheatham also dished out six helpers, and
Jenna Einink (Westfield, N.Y. / Chautauqua Lake) led all rebounders with 12 boards.
Jamie Curry (Ransomville, N.Y. / Wilson) finished with 10 points, and
Emily Lasher (Wilson, N.Y. / Wilson) had nine -- all in the second half. Eleven different Blue Devils figured in the scoring column.
For Alfred (2-7) Amanda Off had 14 points and nine rebounds, and Jamie Wilcox (Forestville, N.Y. / Pine Valley) had 10 points.
Alfred scored the game's first basket before the Devils went on a 13-0 run, finishing the first quarter with a 15-6 lead. Both teams picked up the pace in the second quarter with Fredonia outscoring Alfred 23-21.
The Devils put the game away in the third as Law accounted for 10 points in the quarter to give Fredonia a 24-point lead, 58-34.
Fredonia owned a 60-49 advantage on the boards, and converted nine threes to Alfred's one. Cheatham accounted for three of the long-range buckets.
The Devils shot 40 percent from the field, compared to 23 percent for Alfred. Fredonia limited Alfred to only a pair of field goals in each of the third and fourth quarters.
Fredonia travels to Plattsburgh and Potsdam next weekend to pick up conference play.Â
