BOXSCORE FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia cruised to an 88-62 men's basketball win Tuesday over D'Youville at Steele Hall.
The Blue Devils (2-2) never trailed during the non-conference game. They were led by
Ian Helps (Bronx, N.Y./Greater New York Academy) with 16 points,
Richard De La Cruz (Washington Heights, N.Y./Norman Thomas) and
Kareem Brown (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn H.S. for Law & Tech) with 14 each, and
Nicc Johnson (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster) off the bench with 12.
Tommie Banks (Rochester, N.Y./East) grabbed 10 rebounds as Fredonia had a 60-50 advantage on the boards.
Mark Jorgenson had 10 points to lead the Spartans (1-3), who scored the final 14 points of the game after trailing by as many as 40 points.
Conversely, the Blue Devils were held scoreless for the final 6:10.
Fueled by a 15-0 run, the Blue Devils jumped to a 27-7 lead midway through the first half. All five starters plus reserves Johnson and Banks scored during the run.
The advantage grew to 52-24 at halftime following a jumper by De La Cruz. The Blue Devils continued to add to their lead before topping out at plus-40, first on seven straight points by
De'Quan Smith (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield), and seconds later on a basket by Banks for an 88-48 margin.
