FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Noah Batis had a pair of goals and Joshua Davies made 34 saves in his first collegiate start in goal to carry Plattsburgh over Fredonia, 4-2, in SUNYAC men's hockey Saturday at Steele Hall.
Marcus Ortiz (Richardson, Texas) scored both goals for the Blue Devils, who fell to 2-1-1 in the SUNYAC and 2-2-1 overall. The Cardinals -- No. 5 in USCHO.com and No. 6 in D3Hockey.com rankings -- improved to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Antoine Desnoyers and Cole Stallard put the Cardinals on top, 2-0. Ortiz answered on a power play at 19:32 of the first period from
Jimmy Morgan (Highlands Ranch, Col.) and
Samuel Wilbur (Saginaw, Mich.).
Batis then scored the only goals of the second period as Plattsburgh increased its lead to 4-1.
Ortiz's second goal of the game -- and third of the season -- came while the Blue Devils were skating with a two-man advantage at 8:39 of the third period.
Oskar Gerhardson (Haessleholm, Sweden) and Morgan picked up assists.
Batis earned the No. 1 star, Ortiz the No. 2, and Davies the No. 3.
Fredonia sophomore goaltender
Eric Bogart (London, Ont.) stopped 37 shots.
The Blue Devils meet Morrisville in a home-and-home SUNYAC series next weekend -- Friday at Steele Hall, Saturday in Morrisville.
