OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The Fredonia women's volleyball team gained a conference victory and two points in the Battle by the Lake with a 3-1 victory over Buffalo State on Friday. It was the team's second victory over Buffalo State in the past week.
The Devils (14-7 overall / 3-1 SUNYAC) opened with the Bengals on the first day of Pool Play hosted by Oswego. They cruised to the win, taking the sets 25-9, 25-16, 23-25 Â and 25-17.
Senior
Saverina Chicka (Shelter Island, N.Y. / Shelter Island) led the offense with 13 kills while
Sara Madison (Rochester, N.Y. / Penfield) added seven. The playmaking duties were split between
Amanda Mosack (Webster, N.Y. / Webster Schroeder) and
Hallie Christopher (East Amherst, N.Y. / Clarence). Mosack collected 12 assists, while Christopher had 20.
Courtney Poirier (West Seneca, N.Y. / West Seneca West) was credited with five service aces and a 10 digs.
Rachel Aiello (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker)Â had 16 digs.
Jane Garrity (Victor, N.Y. / Victor) had seven blocks, while Madison added three.
Buffalo State drops to 5-16 and 0-4 in the conference.
The Devils also took over the lead in Battle by the Lake, 4-2, earning two points for the win. The next Fredonia-Buffalo State matchup will be men's and women's cross country when the teams compete in the SUNYAC Meet on Oct. 29.
The Devils continue Pool Play tomorrow, taking on Cortland at 10 a.m. and Oneonta at 3 p.m.
