BOXSCORE 2 OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The Fredonia women's volleyball team defeated Cortland in the morning match, then lost a heartbreaker to Oneonta to wrap up Pool Play at Oswego on Saturday.
After defeating Cortland in straight sets, 3-0, the ladies took a two-sets-to-none lead against Oneonta.
The Red Dragons bounced back and took the next three sets to claim the match, the final set by a score of 15-13.
In the first match of the day against Cortland, the Devils dominated the first two sets, winning 25-18 and 25-9, before being pushed to the limit in the third set, winning 27-25.
Kristen Stanek (Hamburg, N.Y. / Orchard Park) led the team with 12 kills.
Jane Garrity (Victor, N.Y. / Victor) and
Megan Collins (Burlingham, N.Y. / Pine Bush)Â had seven kills apiece.
Amanda Mosack (Webster, N.Y. / Webster Schroeder) set them up with 31 assists.
Kailey Falk (York, N.Y. / Our Lady of Mercy) added three service aces.
Defensively,
Rachel Aiello (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker)Â had 21 digs and Falk added 12. Stanek and Garrity each had a pair of blocks.
Against Oneonta,
Sara Madison (Rochester, N.Y. / Penfield) had 10 kills and
Saverina Chicka (Shelter Island, N.Y. / Shelter Island), Collins and Stanek had nine each. Mosack added 39 assists and 19 digs. Garrity topped the Devils with three blocks and Stanek had three aces.
Fredonia now stands at 15-8 overall and 4-2 in the SUNYAC.
Next up, the team plays Houghton on Senior Night on Tuesday. Conference play is concluded when the Devils host the final round of Pool Play on Oct. 21-22.
