FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Cortland claimed a 3-0 SUNYAC women's soccer win Friday over the Fredonia Blue Devils.

While the Red Dragons improved to 4-1 in SUNYAC and 10-3 overall, the Blue Devils fell to 0-4 and 3-10.

The Red Dragons wasted little time gaining the upper hand. With a free kick in the fourth minute from just outside the 18-yard box, Vanessa Romero grazed a shot off the right post and into the net. It was her third goal of the season and put the Red Dragons on top, 1-0.

The Red Dragons scored twice in a span of four minutes in the second half.

A goal by Gianni Carnesi, her second of the season, gave Cortland a 2-0 lead early in the 62nd minute. After receiving a pass in the left forward positon, Carnesi lofted a wide-angle shot which Kendall Owczarzak (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) could not stop with a leaping try. Stephanie Sheridan's fifth golf of the year came in the 65th minute. She scored from in close after receiving a short cross from Romero.

Victoria Barclay made three saves in the Cortland goal while Owczarzak stopped six shots while letting in all three Cortland goals over the first 71 minutes.

The Blue Devils are back at home Saturday against Oswego for a 1 p.m. start.
