FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia women's tennis team dropped Medaille College, 9-0, on Wednesday and finished the regular season with 9-2 mark. It is the most wins in program history dating back to 1999.
Anna Chiacchia (Hamburg, N.Y. / Hamburg) won at third singles 6-1 and 6-3Â to improve her record to 10-1. She became the first player since 1999 to win 10 matches in a season. Previously winning nine were Elise Daigler (9-1; 2005), Brittany Pagano (9-3; 2004), and Molly Zanetti (9-4; 2013).
At No. 2 singles, senior
Chloe Cohen (West Hempstead, N.Y. / West Hempstead)Â won her 19th career match (19-12) by scores of 6-0 and 6-2. She tied Molly Zanetti (19-13; 2010-13) and trails only Stephanie Thompson (20-21; 2011-14) on the career wins list dating back to 1999.
Other singles winners were
Olivia Miller (Springwater, N.Y. / Wayland-Cohocton)Â at first singles, 6-2 and 6-3;
Halee Dickinson (Brockport, N.Y. / Brockport)Â at fourth singles winning 6-1 and 6-0;
Adriana Speach (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker) wininng 6-1 and 6-1 at fifth; and
Christine Thomas (Ransomville, N.Y. / Niagara Wheatfield)Â at sixth, winning 1-6, 7-5 and 10-7.
Doubles winners included Miller and Chiacchia (8-6), Dickinson and Cohen (8-2), and
Leanne Hofstead (Liverpool, N.Y. / Liverpool)Â and
Stephanie Ashodian (Rochester, N.Y. / Hilton) Â (9-8).
It was the final home match for the five Fredonia seniors: Ashodian, Cohen, Dickinson, Hofstead, and
Phoebe Langdon (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill).
The Blue Devils will compete in the SUNYAC Tournament this weekend in Binghamton as the No. 2 seed out of the West Division. They open with the No. 3 seed in the East, Plattsburgh.
