ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Oneonta men's basketball team weathered an 11-3 game-opening run by Fredonia before settling in and taking them down 95-66 in SUNYAC action on Saturday.
Fredonia had a trio of players reach double digits.
Ian Helps (Bronx, N.Y. / Greater New York Academy) had 15 points,
Richard De La Cruz (Washington Heights, N.Y. / Norman Thomas) had 11 and
Kareem Brown (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Brooklyn H.S. for Law & Tech) had 10. De La Cruz was three of four from three point land, while Brown was two of four.
After the opening run, Oneonta continued to trail Fredonia (4-11/3-6 SUNYAC) seven minutes into the game before a jumper by Ian Schupp tied the game at 21 apiece at the 12:30 mark.
The Red Dragons broke the game open with a 21-6 run over the next nine minutes, as they took a 48-32 lead into halftime.
For Oneonta (11-4/6-2 SUNYAC), Mikey McElroy led all scorers with 22 points. Jackson Zuvic added 14 and Schupp came off the bench to score 19 points.
Fredonia will play host to Potsdam and Plattsburgh next weekend.
