COLUMBUS, Ohio – Fredonia's
Alexis Moreland (Newfane, N.Y.) scored her third goal in as many games during her team's 5-1 women's soccer loss Sunday to Wittenburg.
With the Blue Devils trailing 2-0, Moreland dribbled through traffic to create shooting space. Her shot from just inside the 18-yard line cut the Blue Devils' deficit in half in the 54
th minute of the non-conference game at Capital University's Bernlohr Stadium.
Wittenburg reestablished its two-goal lead in the 56
th minute on an unassisted goal by Kate Burns. Goals by Nicole Karavakis and Emma Box added to Wittenburg's margin of victory.
Megan Davis and Emma Hawthorn had first-half goals for Wittenburg, in the 19
th minute and 39
th minute, respectively.
Fredonia freshman goalkeeper
Kendall Owczarzak (Depew, N.Y.) finished with eight saves. Hannah Wilson had nine saves for Wittenburg.
The Blue Devils were outshot 14-4 in the first half and 24-21 in the game. They had a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.
Kristie Kleine (Cazenovia, N.Y.) was active offensively with eight shots while Moreland had five and
Audrey Yokopovich (Webster, N.Y.) three.
Wittenburg improved to 2-1 while the loss dropped the Blue Devils to 1-2. They return home to face Penn State Behrend next Friday on the first day of the Blue Devil Classic at University Stadium.
