COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Fredonia led at halftime yet was unable to withstand a second-half surge from Capital in women's collegiate soccer Saturday morning.
A goal by junior
Alexis Moreland (Newfane, N.Y.) from junior
Kristie Kleine (Cazenovia, N.Y.) put the Blue Devils on top, 1-0, in the 44th minute. The host Crusanders scored three times in the second half -- in the 65th, 74th, and 87th minutes -- to claim a 3-1 win and drop Fredonia to 1-1.
It was the second goal of the season for Moreland, and the second point of the season for Kleine, who chipped the ball into the box from left of the goal. Moreland tapped in the ball from near the right post.
Mary Bushee, Kathy Connor, and Becca Cartmill scored for the Crusaders, an NCAA Division III Tournament team in 2014. Capital outshot the Blue Devils, 17-11, and held a wide 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Fredonia freshman goalkeeper
Kendall Owczarzak (Depew, N.Y.) was credited with five saves. Alexis Brand made five saves for Capital.
Kickoff was at 9 a.m. Saturday following a postponement Friday night because of lightning in the area.
The Blue Devils are back in action against Wittenburg at 11 a.m. Sunday in Columbus.
