Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Quick Devil scoring touch proves decisive

FREDONIA, N.Y. – A pair of goals early in the second half lifted Fredonia over Allegheny, 2-0, in the women's college season opener for both teams,

Alexis Moreland (Newfane, N.Y.) and Kristie Kleine (Cazenovia, N.Y.) scored two minutes apart, in the 53rd and 55th minutes, while Kendall Owczarzak (Depew, N.Y.) made six saves while posting the shutout in her first collegiate game.

The Blue Devils broke the scoreless tie following a goal kick out of their defensive end. Bre Damiano (Webster, N.Y.), a freshman, found Moreland upfield with a long through ball. Moreland dribbled once to elude a defender and slid a left-footed shot across the box into the opposite corner.

Fredonia quickly made it 2-0 on Kleine's goal. Ally Tatro (Fairport, N.Y.) drilled a hard, close shot which Allegheny goalkeeper Tara Lunch slid out to stop. The ball rebounded to Kleine, who cleaned up the play with a tap into the open net.

Lynch finished with six saves for the Gators, who were outshot by the Blue Devils, 18-14.

Fredonia travels to Columbus, Ohio, for two games this weekend – 7 p.m. Friday vs. host Capital, and 11 a.m. Sunday vs. Wittenburg.
