CORTLAND, N.Y. -- No. 1 seed and host Cortland defeated Fredonia, 14-5, Friday on the first day of the 2015 SUNYAC Baseball Tournament.

The No. 4 seed Blue Devils (14-18) never led against the Red Dragons (34-2), ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division III, whose Nick Hart led a 15-hit attack. Hart was 4 for 4 at the plate, had four RBI, scored two runs, and stole two bases.

Fredonia's offense consisted of five singles and a triple, the latter by Ciro Frontale (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) as part of a four-run ninth inning. Frontale's hit drove in a run. Brian Castonguay (Orchard Park, N.Y./Hamburg) had an RBI single and Quinn Danahy (Buffalo, N.Y./Bishop TImon) an RBI groundout during the inning.

Vincent Sherman (North Collins, N.Y./North Collins), Michael Prentice (West Seneca, N.Y./St. Francis), and Erik Krohl (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) each had a single. Ricky Mendiola (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) drove in the first Fredonia run with an infield groundout in the fourth inning.

Jake Harford (Silver Creek, N.Y./Silver Creek) was the Fredonia starter and losing pitcher. Cortland's Brandon Serio allowed one run on three hits in 7 1/3 innings to improve to 7-0 this season.
