CLERMONT, Fla. -- Fredonia won its second and third games of the spring Monday, 4-2 in come-from-behind fashion over Calvin and a 9-5 slugfest over Fairleigh Dickenson-Florham at the Dot Richardson Spring Games.
Against Calvin,
Maddy Stavish (Olean, N.Y./Olean) rapped a two-out, two-run single to cap a four-run uprising by the Blue Devils in the last of the fourth inning. The rally also included a lead-off single by
Alyssa Morgan (Homer, N.Y./Homer) followed by an RBI double by
Cherise Gunnell (Falconer, N.Y./Falconer). Winning pitcher
Kelsey Gannett (Endwell, N.Y. / Union-Endicott) also drove in a run with a infield grounder and
Madeline Medina (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) drew a walk.
Gannett pitched a complete-game six-hitter with 10 strikeouts. She improved to 1-1 this spring.
The Blue Devils (3-5) used the momentum from the Game 1 win to score five runs in the top of the first inning against Fairleigh Dickenson-Florham, then hung on the strength of a 14-hit attack.
Jess Lauck (Buffalo, N.Y./Kenmore West) showed the way by going 4-by-4 game -- two doubles and two singles. Morgan, Gunnell, and
Lauren Pixley (Hamburg, N.Y. / Frontier) each had two hits while
Maggie Paras (Florida, N.Y. / S.S. Seward) collected two RBI.
Megan Degroat (New Windsor, N.Y. / Cornwall) earned the win in relief of
Aldyn Carlson (Dunkirk, N.Y./Dunkirk) and Gannett picked up a save.
Kate Nicholson (Heuvelton, N.Y./Heuvelton) made a diving catch in foul ground for the defensive gem of the game. Pixley also had a sliding catch in left.
