One more one-run loss

LAKE WALES, FL. --- The Fredonia baseball team fell to 2-4 on its Spring Trip with its fourth one-run loss, this time a 4-3 decision to Maine-Farmington, who improved to 6-0.

Senior left-hander Thomas Morris (Syosset, N.Y./ Syosset) took the hill for the Blue Devils pitching four innings giving up two runs -- one earned -- and five hits while striking out five. Matt Wilhelm (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst) came in to relieve Morris and went four innings giving up two runs on five hits while striking out four batters.

The Beavers scored the first run of the game in the top of the second inning when Trevor Hisler hit an RBI single.

The Blue Devils responded in the bottom of the second inning when Vincent Sherman (North Collins, N.Y./North Collins) scored on a wild pitch. The Blue Devils would take the lead when Quinn Danahy (Buffalo, N.Y./Bishop Timon) grounded into a fielders choice allowing Ricky Mendiola (WIlliamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) to score and give Fredonia a 2-1 lead.

The Blue Devils added another run in the bottom of the third when Sherman hit an RBI single which scored Ciro Frontale (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) from third to extend the lead to 3-1.

Mark Leahy trimmed the lead in the fourth inning for the Beavers when he scored on a Jimmy Parks RBI single.

The Beavers scored what would prove to be the tying and winning runs in the top of the eigth inning. With Wilhelm still on the mound, Farmington's Jimmy Parks doubled home a pair of runners to give the Beavers a 4-3 lead. That lead would become the final score.

Sherman and Ryan Carmody (Montgomery, N.Y. / Valley Central) had two hits apiece. Fredonia had eight hits as a team.

The Blue Devils are back in action Tuesday afternoon as they take on Hamilton College at 1 P.M. in Winterhaven, Florida.
