CLERMONT, Fla. -- Fredonia played its most complete game to date Saturday in a 5-2 loss to Heidelberg at the Dot Richardson Spring Games.
Aldyn Carlson (Dunkirk, N.Y./Dunkirk) pitched complete game in temperatures nearing 90 degrees. Her team scored two runs in the last of the fifth yet were unable to score again while falling to 0-4 this spring.
Heidelberg improved to 8-2 in its final game in Florida.
Trailling 5-0 at the time,
Megan Medina (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) was hit by a pitch leading off the fifth. With
Kim Lotocki (Hamburg, N.Y. / Frontier) pinch running for Medina,
Katelyn Dennis (Webster, N.Y. / Webster Schroeder) doubled to left-center to put runners on second and third.
Lotocki scored on a sacrifice fly to right by
Maggie Paras (Florida, N.Y. / S.S. Seward). Dennis then scored when
Kate Nicholson (Heuvelton, N.Y./Heuvelton) singled off the pitcher's glove.
Dennis and
Alyssa Morgan (Homer, N.Y./Homer) had two hits each for Fredonia.
Paras made two nice plays in left field -- catching a liner to start a double play in the sixth, and throwing out a runner who overran second base in the seventh. Nicholson also had a sliding catch down the line in right during the early innings while Carlson had a back-handed stab in the circle during the middle innings.
The Blue Devils are idle Sunday. They return to action with two games Monday -- 9 a.m. vs. New England College and 1 p.m. vs. Ripon, both at Hancock Park.
