WINTER GARDEN, Fla. -- Fredonia fell to Clarkson 4-3 and to Hope 18-0 on the first day of the 2015 season.
Cherise Gunnell (Falconer, N.Y./Falconer) had two hits and scored two runs against Clarkson. She raced home on a wild pitch to give the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead in second inning. An pinch-hit RBI single by
Madeline Medina (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) brought Gunnell home with the final run in the seventh.
Nikki Lent (Yaphank, N.Y./Longwood)Â tripled in her first collegiate at-bat and scored on a throwing error to give Fredonia a 2-0 lead in the top of the third.
Aldyn Carlson (Dunkirk, N.Y./Dunkirk) was trying to pitch around five Blue Devil errors. She gave up a 2-2 lead on an infield single in the last of the sixth.
Fredonia managed two hits against Hope, whose starting pitcher, Kate Laferty, homered in her first two at-bats. She was lifted in the last of the third with a 9-0 lead.
