CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The Fredonia Blue Devils men's swimming and diving team is now on a three-win streak heading into SUNYAC Championships as they topped the Cortland Red Dragons by a score of 155-139.
Arron Carlson (LeRoy, N.Y. / Notre Dame) earned zone qualifying scores on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. He won both events with scores of 286.45 and 328.55, respectively.
Rafael Santiago (Middletown, N.Y. / Middletown), finishing second in the 1-meter board, also earned a zone-qualifying score of 283.35.
Standout freshman swimmer
Jake Hewitt (Duanesburg, N.Y. / Schalmont) had another strong day as he won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:16.71. Hewitt followed up with a win in the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.25) and a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (55.50).
Will Baker (East Amherst, N.Y. / Williamsville North) had an equally impressive day with a win in the 100-yard freestyle at 48.93 and two second-place finishes in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.51) and 50-yard freestyle (22.96).
Sophomores
Troy Lubanski (Leicester, N.Y. / York) and
Adam Clouthier (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport) each won an event of their own: Lubanski in the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.64) and Clouthier in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:13.77). Lubanski also won the 200-yard individual medley (2:02.36) while Clouthier finished right behind him in second (2:03.76).
The team will now begin final preparations for SUNYAC Championships which take place in Buffalo starting on February 18 at the Flickinger Center.
