FREDONIA, N.Y. — The State University of New York at Fredonia has announced the hiring of
Ryan Kreuser as the new head coach of its men's and women's swimming & diving programs, effective immediately.
Kreuser brings a strong background in both coaching and competitive swimming, along with a proven commitment to student-athlete development, safety, and performance. He most recently served as an assistant swimming coach at SUNY Oswego, where he helped guide training plans, develop athletes across all skill levels, and support meet-day operations.
"Having been a student-athlete and coach in the SUNYAC," said Fredonia State Director of Athletics P.J. Gondek, "Ryan understands the task at hand in leading our swimming and diving program. Fredonia is the perfect place for Ryan to get his start as a head coach and continue the process of bolstering our roster and fostering a student-athlete experience that focuses on wellness and academic and athletic excellence."
In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Kreuser has held multiple leadership roles at the club and youth levels, including serving as head coach of the Newark Wahoos Swim Club and a coach with Oswego Lakers Club Swimming. In these positions, he designed daily workouts, developed technique across all four strokes, and helped swimmers progress toward individual and team goals.
Kreuser is a former collegiate swimmer and team captain at SUNY Oswego, where he earned multiple relay records. His competitive background also includes success in triathlon, having qualified for national competitions and competed at the World Triathlon Championships.
"I am extremely excited for the opportunity to take on the role of Head Swimming and Diving Coach at SUNY Fredonia," Kreuser said. "I would like to thank the Athletic Director P.J. Gondek, Associate Director of Athletics Angela Pucciarelli Rice, and the rest of the search committee for putting their trust in me to take over this program and help move it forward. SUNY Fredonia has a strong history within the SUNYAC with a lot of potential for this current program. I look forward to guiding the student athletes towards a successful career."
Kreuser holds a master's degree from Nazareth University and a bachelor's degree from SUNY Oswego. His background in education and creative arts therapy complements his coaching philosophy, emphasizing holistic student development, mental well-being, and teamwork. A certified U.S. swim coach and lifeguard with CPR/AED credentials, he is committed to maintaining a safe and high-performing environment for all student-athletes.
"My vision for the program," Kreuser said, "is to help grow the team to have a lot of depth, versatility and engagement. There will be a lot to be gained from having higher numbers on the team from being more competitive, to having an increase in engagement for the program. I hope to grow the team culture and continue to develop a fun and enriching environment for anyone who hopes to be a part of this program."
