MEADVILLE, PA. -- The Fredonia men's swimming and diving team opened the season with a 157-135 loss to Allegheny on Saturday.
A trio of swimmers won an individual event, while all three each added a relay victory. Divers
Rafael Santiago (Middletown, N.Y. / Middletown) and
Arron Carlson (LeRoy, N.Y. / Notre Dame) claimed top spots off their respective boards.
Bill Bradley (Dunkirk, N.Y. / Dunkirk) took the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 56.85,
Adam Clouthier (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport) won the breast stroke in 1:03.84 and
Troy Lubanski (Leicester, N.Y. / York) won the 100 IM in 57.44.
All three -- plus
Will Baker (East Amherst, N.Y. / Williamsville North) -- combined to win the 200-yard medley in 1:41.8.
Santiago was the top diver off the 1-meter board with a score of 239.00. Carlson's 237.50 was good enough to take the 3-meter board.
After the meet, head coach
Arthur Wang felt his team saw what needs to be accomplished to be successful in the season ahead. "There are some good aspects for having a meet this early, but there are some things we know we need to work at."
The team is off next weekend before heading to Niagara University on Oct. 17th.
