Devils tie No. 12 Plattsburgh State

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -- Fredonia kept its men's soccer playoff chances alive with a 2-2 SUNYAC tie Friday with No. 12 Plattsburgh State.

Ryan Keller (East Aurora, N.Y.) scored both Fredonia goals while Jeremy Bari (Niagara Falls, N.Y.), normally a forward, made five saves in his first collegiate start in goal.

The Blue Devils emerged from the game with a 1-3-2 SUNYAC record -- 2-9-3 overall. They head to Potsdam for a 1 p.m. Saturday game. Both teams are still within reach of the sixth and final playoff berth.

"It was a great effort today," Blue Devil head coach P.J. Gondek said, "to get a point on the road against a nationally ranked opponent with a field player in goal."

Keller opened the scoring in the seventh minute when his shot deflected off a defender. It was his first goal of the season.

Plattsburgh State drew even 1-1 on a goal by Ethan Votraw in the 15th minute with a volley from the top of the box before Keller scored again in the 26th minute on a free kick from 25 yards out. His shot deflected into the goal off the cross bar.

Bari and the Blue Devils were poised to pull the upset until Alexis Archilla netted his 14th goal of the season in the 71st minute on a breakaway off a through ball from Votraw.

Plattsburgh State goalkeeper Michell Jordon was credited with two saves as he and his team emerged from the tie with an 11-1-3 record, including 3-0-3 in the SUNYAC.
