Troy Lubanski (Leicester, N.Y. / York) and women's swimmer
Sam Rokos (Delanson, N.Y. / Duanesburg) both won three events today as the Blue Devils celebrated their senior day in front of a large home crowd.
The men won thier meet with a score of 190-106, while the women won 182-116.
Before the event, the team paid due to 12 graduating seniors. Each athlete was recognized with a speech from a younger teammate and then congratulated by head coach Aurthur Wang.
"It was a very memorable last meet for our seniors," said Wang afterwards. "They swam with purpose and conviction."
The men's swimmers were led by Lubanski (Leicester, N.Y. / York) and freshman
Jake Hewitt (Duanesburg, N.Y. / Schalmont) who each took first place in three events. Lubanski won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.96, the 200-yard backstroke at 2:03.37, and the 100-yard butterfly at 55.22. He was also part of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay along with
Adam Clouthier (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport),
Graham Jones (Tonawanda, N.Y. / Kenmore East), and
Will Baker (East Amherst, N.Y. / Williamsville North). Hewitt won in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:18.51), the 200-yard butterfly (1:59.55), and the 200-yard individual medley (2:03.72).
For the women's swimmers, junior
Sam Rokos (Delanson, N.Y. / Duanesburg) was once again a standout as she won three events: the 100-yard freestyle (54.91), the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.75), and the 200-yard individual medley (2:15.44).
Larissa Dobson (Hamburg, N.Y. / Eden) won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:28.94, while Melissa Mazurek (Brockport, N.Y. / Brockport) won the 1000-yard freestyle at 11:57.68. Rosa, Dobson,
Rachel Morgano (West Islip, N.Y. / West Islip) and
Ellie Brion (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua) won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:51.77.
For the men's divers, sophomore
Arron Carlson (LeRoy, N.Y. / Notre Dame) finished first in both the 1-meter (300.10) and 3-meter boards (288.50). Both results were qualifying zone scores.
Rafael Santiago (Middletown, N.Y. / Middletown) was second in the 1-meter event (264.60) and third in the 3-meter (253.25).
The women's divers were led once again by sophomore
Meghan Bartlett (Johnstown, N.Y. / Johnstown). Taking first on both boards, she received a score of 253.40 for the 1-meter and a score of 266.30 on the 3-meter.
Both teams will travel to Cortland next weekend to face the Red Dragons. SUNYAC Championships will then take place on February 18th at the Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo.
