POTSDAM, N.Y.--- The Fredonia men's basketball team won its first SUNYAC game of the season in convincing fashion, 65-57, over host Potsdam on Friday.
The Blue Devils were led by freshman
Ian Helps (Bronx, N.Y./ Greater New York Academy) who recorded a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds. Junior
Alexander Grace (Bemus Point, N.Y./Maple Grove) came off the bench with 13 points, while Junior
Kyree Hull (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill) and freshman
Max Pearce (Tuckahoe, N.Y. / Tuckahoe) scored 11 apiece.
Typically a hot first-half team the Blue Devils went on a 10-0 run in the opening three minutes of the game and finished the half up 29-23.
Potsdam earned its first lead of the game midway through the second half, 39-36. Fredonia regained the lead at the 7:55 mark on a layup by Hull to make it 44-42. Hull's layup came in the midst of a 17-0 run by Fredonia as they built the lead to 53-42 before the Bears broke the string with just over four minutes to play.
The Blue Devils controlled the boards with a 47-34 advantage in rebounds.
The Bears (2-14, 1-9 SUNYAC) were led by Rishawd Hendricks with 17 points and seven rebounds.Â
Friday's win marks the first SUNYAC win for the Blue Devils who improved to 2-14 overall and 1-10 in the conference. The Blue Devils look to ride the momentum into another conference game against Plattsburgh Saturday afternoon.Â
