PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Fredonia was unable to recover from a 3-0 deficit Saturday and fell to Johnson & Wales, 4-2, in non-conference men's hockey.
Stephen Castriota (Bellport, N.Y.) tried to lead a comeback with his sixth and seventh goals of the season to pull the Devils within 3-2 late in the second period.
The Blue Devils managed just seven shots in the third period and were unable to complete the rally. The loss dropped Fredonia to 4-7-4.
Fran Mackin had two goals and Connor Bates and Drew Kariofiles had one goal each for the Wildcats. They improved to 9-6-1 and evened the season series with Fredonia. The Blue Devils defeated the Wildcats, 2-1, on Dec. 12 in Steele Hall.
Joey Ballmer made 24 saves for Johnson & Wales while
Jeff Flagler (Owen Sound, Ont.) stopped 25 shots in the Fredonia net.
The game was played before a crowd of 2,335 at the Dunkin Donuts Arena in Providence. It was the final non-conference game for the Blue Devils, who'll return to SUNYAC play next Friday at Cortland, followed by a trip to Oswego next Saturday.
