GENESEO, N.Y. – Fredonia fell to the Geneseo Knights for the second time this month, 80-71, in SUNYAC men's basketball.
Robert Lyles (Peekskill, N.Y. / Peekskill) finished with 20 points while Bayron Carter (Peekskill, N.Y. / Peekskill) had 17 points and five rebounds for the Blue Devils, who dropped to 1-9 overall and 0-6 in the SUNYAC. Kyree Hull (Peekskill, N.Y. / Peekskill) came away with eight rebounds and four assists.
Geneseo improved to 8-4 overall and 4-1 in the SUNYAC.The Blue Devils moved quickly in the opening minutes of play, capitalizing on two Geneseo turnovers to jump out to a 13-4 lead. The Knights rallied behind the leading scorer in the conference, Gordon Lyles, to close the gap, 13-11. James McKenna followed with two three-point shots that swung the momentum in Geneseo's direction. After another lay-up by McKenna, the Knights led 31-23.
After a five-minute scoring drought, the Blue Devils regained composure behind the shooting of Lyles and Hull to take a 36-33 lead at halftime.Geneseo took the lead early in the second half, yet the Blue Devils battled back to take its final lead, 66-63, on a basket by Lyles and two free throws by Carter with 4:11 remaining.
The Blue Devils are at Brockport tomorrow to take on the Golden Eagles at 2 p.m.
