BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- Fredonia dropped an 84-73 decision at Brockport in SUNYAC men's basketball Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Devils led early, fell behind later in the first half, then rallied late in the half but could not hold the momentum in the second half.
Ian Helps (Peekskill, N.Y.) led Fredonia with 23 points while
Kyree Hull (Peekskill, N.Y.) added 14 and
Robert Lyles (Peekskill, N.Y.) 10. Helps also finished with 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. Hull grabbed nine rebounds.
The loss was Fredonia's ninth straight as they fell to 1-10 overall and 0-7 in the SUNYAC. The Golden Eagles improved to 3-3 in the conference and 6-7 overall. They had five players score in double figures, led by Jon Carnegie with 13 points.
The Blue Devils' largest lead of the first half was eight points, 14-6, on a layup by Hull. Brockport's bench then triggered a run which led to an 18-point swing over the next nine minutes. The Golden Eagles pulled out to a 39-29 lead advantage with just over six minutes left in the half on a basket by Hamed Shamseldin. Fredonia battled back to within three points, 47-44, at halftime.
Hull had 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists during the first 20 minutes. Lyles and Helps had 10 points each. The Blue Devils were outscore 34-7 in bench scoring during the first half. Helps is a freshman while Hull and Lyles are juniors.
After shooting 53.3 percent in the first half, the Blue Devils cooled off to 34.5 percent in the second.
Fredonia takes on Buffalo State 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Steele Hall Fieldhouse.
