BOXSCORE 2 ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Fredonia women's volleyball team downed Lycoming College, 3-1, and Hilbert College, 3-0, on Day 2 of the Nazareth Invitational on Saturday.
The Devils finish the tournament with a 3-1 record and improved to 5-3 overall.
Against Lycoming,
Jessica DiChristopher (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) continued her strong weekend collecting 13 kills and a .379 hitting percentage. Captain
Paulina Rein (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) finished with 12 kills, hitting off the right side for a .278 percentage.
Other top performers were Sarah Madison (Rochester, N.Y.) with nine kills,
Kelly Edinger (Rochester, N.Y.) with 38 assists. Defensively
Lauren Hokaj (Lancaster, N.Y.) had 17 digs and
Liza Beardsley (Rochester, N.Y.) had four blocks. Rein also had a team-best 21 digs.
Though they were very effective in serve/receive, the Blue Devils struggled blocking opposing hitters, allowing Lycoming to stay in the match surrendering the third set, 23-25, after claiming the first two 25-22 and 25-10.
The Devils would regroup and go on to dominate the fourth set, winning 25-11.
The final match of the tournament against Hilbert saw the Blue Devils win with set scores of 25-10, 25-8 and 25-20. The team had a hitting percentage of .350 for the match and 10 service aces. Edinger had another 38 assists and Hokaj added 19 digs. DiChristpher added 13 kills.

DiChristopher was named to the All-Tournament team.

"We have some team goals that we are trying to accomplish and I thought this weekend was a big step forward in accomplishing them," said head coach
Geoff Braun after the tournament. "Jess (DiChristopher) was phenomenal at the net. She has really become a strong offensive weapon for us. Having her in the middle really opens up our offense for our other hitters."
The Devil travel to New Paltz next weekend for a non-conference invitational.
