New season opens at Kent State

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The 2014-15 season opens Friday at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala.

Head coach Tom Wilson on the men's team:

"The men will be driven by both age and experience. A strong distance crew coming off a strong XC season will get this started with the 5k Friday night. Senior's Zakk Hess (2x NCAA Qualifier) and Chris Shartrand (captain) will look to guide the Blue Devils to a successful start to the 2014-15 Indoor season.Senior Doug Imperi (captain) will be pushed by freshman Mitch Paciga in the Heptathlon taken place over both days.Youth in all events will be key to the Blue Devils having a strong push to a SUNYAC title in 2015. We will be looking for strong showings from freshman Tristen Dervish, Robert Chase Towse, Jack Erhard and Mitch Loiacano in events ranging from the 200m dash up to the mile run. In the field events, freshman Rocky Capparo (TJ), Damone Brown (SP) and Justyn Haines (PV) will look to kick off their Blue Devil careers on a high note.We like to come to a competitive D1 meet right away to introduce the athletes to a high intensity environment early on, so when we hit our peek each athlete will be ready for anything!"

Wilson on the women's team:

"The women will be driven by youth the entire season. We are looking for strong showings from Anna Dambacher (2014 Outdoor NCAA Qualifier) and multiple school record holder to guide the way for our youth in the 60m, 200m and 400m dashes. Senior captain Hailey Griewisch will kick off her final indoor season in the 60m hurdles.
(SO) Laura Morrison is coming off a very strong outdoor season in the 800m and will look to start off right were she left off, setting school records Saturday in the 800m. The field events will be a new look for the Blue Devils. In the throws, (SR) Niki Desens will be guiding freshman Rachel Williams and Anneliese Bienko to their first college performances. While (JR) Olivia Kurbs will guide three new freshman vaulters, Kristen Sawyer, Julia Schreier and Jen Wasielewski. We put in a ton of work last year recruiting the best female athletes we could, now it's time to see what they can do. We are very excited to see how this young team molds together this weekend!"
