Bonding experience leads to final '14 meet

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- One benefit of last weekend's Blue Devil Inviational at Steele Hall was that, through heightened competition, every member of both Fredonia Blue Devil teams qualified for the SUNYAC Swimming & Diving championship meet in February.

Another benefit was having both teams spend three days together competing for themselves and each other.

"The team bonded over the weekend, and grew stronger as it progressed," head coach Arthur Wang said. "For such a young team, they learned what was necessary for success."

The Blue Devils will look to put their newfound esprit de corps on display Saturday afternoon against Canisius College at the Steele Hall Natatorium.

The dual meet -- Fredonia's last competition of 2014 -- begins at 1 p.m.

Wang said both squads had their share of injuries and physical maladies during the first semester, yet both have bounced back individually and collectively.

"The men's team," he said, "swam very, very well. The women's team ... came out with a tremendous, positive attitude heading into break."
