FREDONIA, N.Y. --
Hunter Long (Lebanon, Tenn.) scored at 5:07 of the third period Friday to lift Fredonia over Johnson & Wales, 2-1, in men's hockey at the Steele Hall Ice Arena.
Long scored off a scramble in front of J&W goaltender Joey Ballmer to break a 1-1 tie.
Jeff Flagler (Owen Sound, Ont.) made 37 saves, including a game-saving stop as time expired as Fredonia ended a four-game losing streak.
The Blue Devils closed out the first semester with a 2-5-3 record while Johnson & Wales fell to 5-4-1.

Mackenzie McAvoy (Port Colborne, Ont.) opened the scoring at 3:58 of the third period with a shot from the right high slot after taking a pass in center ice from
Blake Forslund (Owen Sound, Ont.). It was the first goal of the season for the sophomore forward..
Fran Mackin evened the score for the Wildcats at 11:15 of the second period. Sent up the ice by two teammates' passes, Mackin rushed into the offensive end and took a hard shot from the right circle. Flagler made the initial save before Mackin banged in the rebound.
Flagler saved the final shot of the game, a blast by defenseman Matt Lanzillotti after Cody Sarmiento won a draw with two seconds remaining.
