FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia ran its winning streak to seven straight with 3-0 home wins Friday on the first day of the Blue Devil Invitational.
The Blue Devils improved to 13-6 overall by first taking down the Pitt.-Bradford Panthers 25-14- 25-11- 25-17; and then rolling over the Hilbert  Hawks 25-16, 25-11, 25-21 before a large and loud crowd in the Dods half gym.
Paulina Rein (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) had eight kills and a .353 hitting percentage against the Panthers.
Kelly Edinger (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) was the top Blue Devil playmaker with 30 assists and the top defender with 14 digs.
Lauren Hokaj (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Mary's) added 13 digs and Rein had 10.
Jessica DiChristopher (Cheektowaga, N.Y./West Seneca East) was an offensive force with six kills and three service aces as well as a defensive standout with three block solos and three block assists.
The Hilbert match was marked by the arrival of a large contingent of Blue Devil fans, including several men's soccer players who had just come back inside from practice. Head coach Geoff Bruan's team used the extra energy in the gym to score a decisive win. DiChristopher led with 12 kills and a .550 hitting mark, Edinger collected 34 more assists, and Hokaj was credited with three service aces. Defensively, Hokaj had 21 digs and
Sara Madison (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield) collected 10, while DiChristopher had three more solo blocks and four more block assists. Edinger and
Jane Garrity (Victor, N.Y./Victor) each had one solo and two block assists.
The six-team Invitational resumes Saturday with the first matches at 11 a.m., including the Blue Devils vs. Frostburg State. Fredonia will also face Rochester Institute of Technology in a 3 p.m. match.
