FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia prepped for its SUNYAC women's soccer playoff game with a rain-soaked 1-0 loss Tuesday to the RIT Tigers at University Stadium.
Hayley Cromwell scored in the 51st minute on a give-and-go with Quincey Ornellas to provide the Tigers with the go-ahead goal. A slip by a Fredonia defender contributed to Cromwell getting off a clear shot.
It turned out to be the one break separating the two teams. The Blue Devils managed 10 shots, three of them on goal. RIT took nine shots, four of them on the net.
Blue Devil goalkeeper
Lindsey Forness (Allegany, N.Y./Allegany-Limestone) was credited with three saves, same as RIT's Amanda Murray.
RIT improved to 8-3-5 while Fredonia fell to 8-8-1.
The Blue Devils play host to Buffalo State in the first round of the SUNYAC Tournament. Game time is 1 p.m. Saturday.
NOTES: Fredonia's two seniors,
Katie Kleine (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) and
Maggie Horan (Livonia, N.Y./Livonia), were recognized during a pre-game ceremony prior to playing their final regular-season home game ... Kleine on Tuesday was named co-recipient of ECAC Upstate New York Offensive Player of the Week. She had two goals and one assist last week, which also earned her SUNYAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. St. Lawrence's Mackenzie Collins was also recognized by the ECAC.
