POTSDAM, N.Y. -- Fredonia clanged two shots off metal Saturday and both were crucial misses in an eventual 2-0 SUNYAC women's soccer loss to the Potsdam Bears.
Katie Kleine (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) hit a goal post in the 23rd minute with the Blue Devils down 1-0. It was still 1-0 when
Audrey Yokopovich (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) hit the cross bar in the 76th minute. Five minutes late, Potsdam scored off a penalty kick to complete the scoring.
Fredonia took 27 total shots to only five for Potsdam, and had an 11-3 advantage in shots-on-goal. Fredonia took seven corner kicks, Potsdam took two.
Jaci Morr scored the first Potsdam goal just 1:25 into the game. The penalty kick by Kristin Webster came in the 81st minute.
Potsdam goalkeeper Emily Lapage was credited with 10 saves. Fredonia's
Lindsey Forness (Allegany, N.Y./Allegany-Limestone) had one stop.
The Blue Devils fell to 6-7-1 with the loss, including 3-3-1 in the SUNYAC. They were trying to complete a weekend sweep in North Country following a 1-0 win Friday at Plattsburgh.
It was the first SUNYAC win of the season for Potsdam, which improved to 1-6 in the conferernce and 6-8-1 overall.
The Blue Devils return to action next Friday when they play host to Oneonta at 3 p.m.
