CORTLAND, N.Y. -- An eight-game unbeaten streak by Fredonia men's soccer came to an end with a 4-1 SUNYAC road loss Saturday afternoon to the Cortland Red Dragons.
The Blue Devils yielded two goals in each half and countered only with a second-half goal by
Mike Biggane (Amherst, N.Y. / Sweet Home), his third of the season. His low shot through traffic from in close came in the 76th minute and cut the Cortland lead to 2-1.
Aaron Hayes (Hamburg, N.Y. / St. Francis) and
Sam DeFranks (Tonawanda, N.Y. / Kenmore West) were credited with assists.
The Red Dragons put the game on ice with goals by Tyler Marsh in the 86th minute and by Ole Toepfer with 31 seconds remaining. Robby Reiser and Darren McCormack scored first-half goals. Cortland goalkeeper Tim Beauvais made five saves.
Sammy Torrelli (Akron, N.Y./Akron) stopped eight shots for the Blue Devils.
Cortland improved to 10-2-1 overall and 5-0-1 in the conference. Fredonia dropped to 8-2-3 overall and 2-1-2 in the SUNYAC. The Blue Devils came into the game with a 5-0-3 record in their previous eight games.
The Blue Devils play host to Plattsburgh next Friday, followed by a visit from Potsdam next Saturday.
