FREDONIA, N.Y. – A rocky start cost the the Fredonia Blue Devils on Friday as they fell to the Plattsburgh Cardinals, 4-0, in college men's soccer at University Stadium.
Plattsburgh got on the board in the 15th minute as Ethan Votraw took advantage of a Fredonia misplay to put the ball into the open net.
Two minutes later, Alexis Archilla put the ball in the back of the net off of a corner kick to put the Cardinals in front 2-0.
The Devils were able to gain their footing as the two teams traded chances the rest of the half before Plattsburgh added to its lead in the second half on goals by Ian Spear and Chris Bowden.
Sammy Torrelli (Akron,N.Y./Akron) had two saves in the Fredonia goal.
Mike Biggane (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home),
Sam DeFranks (Tonawanda, N.Y./Kenmore West), and Vince Chimento (Akron, N.Y./Akron) each provided a shot for Fredonia.
The loss dropped Fredonia to 8-3-3 overall, and 2-2-2 in the conference. With the win Plattsburgh will get to 8-6-1 overall, and 3-3 in conference play.
The Blue Devils will be back in action on Saturday -- and celebrate Senior Day -- when they welcome to Potsdam Bears to town at 1 p m at University Stadium.
