Devils rebound to tie Oswego

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Kleine to Kleine combination accounted for Fredonia's lone goal in a 1-1 SUNYAC women's soccer tie with the Oswego State Lakers.

Senior midfielder Katie Kleine (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) fed a short cross pass to her sister, sophomore midfielder Kristie Kleine (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia), in the 61st minute. Kristie's short shot was her fifth goal of the season, which tied her sister for the Blue Devil lead.

The Fredonia goal made up for a defensive mistake by the Blue Devils minutes earlier. The Lakers were credited with an own goal in the 57th minute when a corner kick by Georgia Traynor (Tompkins Cove, N.Y./North Rockland) deflected off a Fredonia defender stationed in front of her own net.

The tie left Fredonia with a 2-1-1 SUNYAC record (5-5-1 overall) and moved them into a tie with Plattsburgh for fifth place in the conference standings.

The Lakers ended the day at 5-4-3 overall and 2-0-3 in the SUNYAC. They are tied with Geneseo for second place. Cortland took over the conference lead with a 1-0 win Friday at Buffalo State. The Red Dragons visit Fredonia for a 1 p.m. game Saturday.

Oswego earned the potential SUNYAC tiebreaker with 4-3 decision in penalty kicks.

Fredonia goalkeeper Lindsey Forness (Allegany, N.Y./Allegany-Limestone) made nine saves while her counterpart, Oswego State's Alyssa Glasshagel (Coram, N.Y./Newfield), stopped eight shots.
