OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The Fredonia University men's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to eight straight games with a 1-0 SUNYAC victory at Oswego.
Ryan Ross (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) scored the game's only goal. It was his team-leading fourth goal of the season.
The assist went to
Vinny Chimento (Akron, N.Y./Akron) -- the second straight game he assisted on a Ross goal. Chimento leads the team with five assists and has been credited with a helper in four straight games.
Just 7:18 into the game, Chimento passed a through ball to Ross who deked the Oswego goalkeeper for the score.
Fredonia's
Michael Schreiner (Spencerport, N.Y. / Spencerport) was credited with the shutout, collecting six saves. Oswego's Todd Lawson took the loss, with eight saves.
The Devils held a 20-16 advantage in shots and a 9-6 edge in shots on goal. They also had a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.
The Devils, now 8-1-3 overall and 2-0-2 in the SUNYAC, have five wins and three ties in their last eight games. Oswego falls to 2-8-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the conference.
Fredonia takes on Cortland Saturday afternoon at Cortland. Gametime is slated for 1 p.m.
