FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Winning all but the final match, Fredonia rolled over D'Youville, 8-1, in what is believed to the first night women's tennis match on the Fredonia campus.
The Blue Devils improved to 4-6 this seaon, including a 3-3 record at home, by sweeping all the doubles matches and taking five of the six singles. The had lost their previous two matches.
Chloe Cohen (West Hempstead, N.Y./West Hempstead), a sophomore, improved to a team-leading 6-4 in singles competition while sophomore
Samantha Pedneault (East Moriches, N.Y./Sachem North) and senior
Emily Fulkerson (Seneca Falls, N.Y./Mynderse Academy) each won their fourth singles matches of the season.
Others singles winners Wednesday were sophomore
Phoebe Langdon (Syracuse, N.Y./West Hill) and
Jenna Fiacco (Verona, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill). No. 1 singles player senior
Stephanie Thompson (Verona, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) lost in a 12-10 third set tiebreaker.
In doubles competition, Thompson and Pedneault combined for their second win of the season together. The other two Fredonia pairings were playing together for the first time in 2014.
Fredonia closes out its regular season Saturday. The Blue Devils are scheduled to meet Medaille at noon on the Steele Hall courts.
